The stakes were high: get it wrong and sixty per cent of a large city’s water supply could dry up. Careful planning and a thorough approach meant that a water treatment plant’s raw-water dosing system upgrade went without a hitch.
The stakes were high: get it wrong and sixty per cent of a large city’s water supply could dry up. Careful planning and a thorough approach meant that a water treatment plant’s raw-water dosing system upgrade went without a hitch.
Ergo helped to update the dosing and sparge system at the plant’s inlet so as to improve chemical mixing and dispersion. This increased the system’s reliability and reduced running and maintenance costs.
The project’s biggest challenge involved integrating and migrating existing plant loads and controls to new motor control centres (MCCs) and distributed control system (DCS) DeltaV nodes. This required exhaustive risk and mitigation analysis, and migration process management.
Particular attention was paid to documenting the electrical risks and developing mitigation plans. Every risk point was recorded – all 12 pages worth – which contributed to a robust framework that will be used in the client’s future plant upgrades.
The client commented he was impressed with Ergo’s thorough documentation and excellent communication. He also appreciated receiving thorough and timely explanations about the rationale behind Ergo’s decisions, and the sound solutions developed for problems encountered along the way.
In November 2011 the IPENZ Standards & Accreditation Board accepted Ergo's application as a Professional Development Partner (PDP). There are currently only 35 other companies which hold this accreditation.
